Heirlooms

An Heirloom is something we hold on to, that we will never part with.  It can be something that was found, like my Infant of Prague Statue that I found in an antique mall.

I'd been hoping to find a statue like this.  Had looked at them on ebay.  I never thought I'd get so lucky to find one this beautiful by chance.  I love his handpainted face. the pink satin and cream lace.  The patina and chippiness is just wonderful too.

It can be something that was passed down, that was held on to  for future generations. This tiny jewelry is from my family.

Heirlooms don't have to be perfect because their value is more sentimental than monetary.

They are irreplaceable at any cost because even if you find another, it's not the same.
When my Grandmother died, my mom told my sister and me to pick out one piece of cut glass that was hers.  I picked out the candy dish compote above.  It wasn't the largest piece and maybe not the prettiest, but I remember her keeping Christmas candy in that and that was why I wanted it.
This beautiful plate was in my mother's dining room.  She received it from her Grandmother.  I hold on to it because it's so beautiful and was counted as a treasure to both of them.

It was the first in a collection of rose plates that I still collect.

What do you own that you consider to be an heirloom?

HAPPY FIRST WEEKEND OF FALL!!

I can't wait for cooler (drier) weather and for all the fun things I have planned to do all the way up through Christmas!!

  1. Happy Pink Saturday Jennifer,
This is a beautiful post because it is filled with love...not just things you acquire.
I LOVE...LOVE...your Infant of Prague statue...it is stunning. I could only dream of owning one
I collect head vases of Mary, mother of Jesus. I have 3 so far and they are all white
I loved my grandparents candy dish also...I didn't get theirs' but I found one in an antique shop and it makes me fondly remember the times at their house.
I am having a small give away of a simple tag I made.
    Very nice to meet you

  2. I have both of my grandmothers engagement rings.
They are priceless to me one I wear the other is too small for me and I don't want to alter it.
My husband has a coffe cup and hankerchief from his grandad that he keeps safe.
It's the memories attached to them that make them important items to us.

  6. Your heirlooms are wonderful treasures to enjoy and to pass on.
You are right when you say that we can secure another one, but it's not the same as the very piece that belonged to a loved one!

  8. Oh what a day to come to your sweet blog Jen. I'm sorry I haven't been earlier, but as you know mom was in hospice. She passed away in my arms at 12:15am. I'm holding on.
Heirlooms. Yes, I have some too. Precious and even dearer to my heart today.
Thank you for coming over to my house.
